What's new in AeroLog

Released August 16, 2026

• The file vault is now part of Aviator and up — Discovery no longer includes personal file storage. Nothing you already uploaded is deleted; it stays stored and unlocks again the moment you upgrade.
• Members of an organization keep the shared library and files shared with them on any plan — that's part of what the org subscription pays for. Uploading to your personal vault is what needs Aviator.
• Pricing, billing, and the plan comparison were updated to match.

Released August 13, 2026

• Say what you hold, once — Settings now has a pilot status you set in one place, and it takes more than one value, so Commercial + CFII is finally something you can actually say. Currency's next-certificate target, your dashboard, endorsement templates and org labels all read from it instead of guessing. Existing accounts are converted automatically.
• Org member discounts apply on their own — 20% off Aviator on Organization, 30% on Organization Elite, with no code to type. The price you see is the price PayPal charges. If you become eligible while already subscribed, Billing offers to move you; PayPal asks you to approve the change, as it always does for a price change.
• Hours you flew before AeroLog now count. The number the setup wizard asked for was being saved somewhere nothing read, so it never showed up. It counts toward your totals now, and Settings lets you correct it.
• Medical shows the whole privilege ladder — a first-class exam gives you first-class privileges for a while, then second, then third, each with its own date. Currency used to quote only the first one, which told Class 1 holders they had lapsed when they had years left. Set which privileges you actually need in Customize.
• Deleting a file now really deletes it. A rules bug rejected every delete while the app reported success, so the file vanished from your list and the upload stayed, still counting against your storage.
• Signing in no longer breaks cloud sync. A race meant data could stop syncing until you signed out and back in.
• Schedule — edit or remove your own booking straight from the block, see that an aircraft is in maintenance when you pick it rather than after you fill the form, and student photos in the availability panel.
• Organization — you can no longer be your own student, deleting a lesson note asks first, and instructor photos show up where their name does.
• Finance — a student who leaves keeps their unpaid invoices visible and payable until the balance clears, tagged as a former member. Changing your rates now tells the org.
• ATC mode keeps the traffic the map already found. Switching into it used to throw the picture away and start over, so a momentary gap in the ADS-B feed left an empty scope while the map behind it still showed aircraft. It also says which it is now — “no traffic reported” when the feed came back empty, rather than a bare zero.
• When the traffic feed answers but has nothing, we now try the backup source instead of drawing an empty map.
• Schedule and rosters drop people the moment they leave. A removed student used to linger — still listed, still showing availability — until you reloaded. Pairings your organization created end with the membership; a direct instructor connection you made outside an org survives it.
• Flight Ops tells you when a balance is outstanding, without putting the amount in the notification. Org admins set the dollar point where it fires.
• Fixed: dragging an FBO or its ramp corners now saves. Placing one already did.
• Light theme, properly — panels over the map are translucent again, and a large group of buttons, chips and inputs that were rendering with no background at all now paint correctly in both themes.
• The logbook's activity chart is readable — small months were being drawn as invisible slivers, and the monthly and year-to-date figures were counted differently.
• Settings lost the controls that did nothing, and the custom wallpaper feature is gone. Reduce motion now follows your system setting instead of a second switch here.
• The privacy policy and subprocessor list now match what the app actually loads.

Released August 11, 2026

• Export to ForeFlight and LogTen — the logbook's Export menu now produces a ForeFlight Logbook Import file and a LogTen-ready tab-separated file, so your hours travel with you.
• Download your data — Settings → Data & sync exports everything your account stores (profile, logbook, aircraft, endorsements, settings) as one JSON file.
• Your logbook now syncs flight-by-flight instead of as one big document — saves are smaller and faster, and the old ~1 MB ceiling on a whole flying career is gone. The switch happens automatically the first time you open the app; nothing to do.

Released August 10, 2026

• Push notifications actually arrive now — a deploy gap meant nothing was being sent since the per-device subscription change. If you enabled notifications before, just open the app once on each device to re-register.
• Booking reminders with a weather brief — a push the day before and two hours before each booking, with the field's current METAR attached so you know the conditions before you drive out.
• Currency and expiry warnings — a weekly check that warns you before day/night passenger currency lapses, your flight review or medical expires, or a CFI-issued endorsement runs out.
• Fleet emergency alerts — if one of your organization's aircraft squawks 7700, 7600, or 7500 anywhere in the world, everyone in the org gets a push immediately, even with the app closed.
• Watch any aircraft — tap the bell on an aircraft's map card to get a push when it takes off, lands, or squawks an emergency.
• Every new notification type has its own toggle in Settings → Notifications.
• Mobile scrolling un-stuck — the schedule's day grid no longer swallows vertical swipes, and the dashboard map now lets one-finger swipes scroll the page (pan with a horizontal drag or two fingers).
• iPad layout fixed — the top nav no longer hides under the status bar or clips its tabs; tablets now get the mobile navigation that actually fits.
• Light theme on the dashboard is genuinely light — the map defaults to the light basemap, panels, chips, and links all follow the theme, and aircraft are drawn in dark ink so they're visible on light tiles.

Released August 9, 2026

• The ATC basemap is now drawn from real geography — true coastlines, lakes, rivers and country borders anywhere on the planet, loaded instantly with no map tiles to wait for.
• Real infrastructure, worldwide: as you zoom in anywhere, actual roads, railways, small lakes and power lines (every pylon at its true position) stream in from OpenStreetMap and stay cached as you pan — and the amber highway network now reads across a whole country, not just around your field.
• Real city labels and named mountain peaks with elevations, ranked by zoom — capitals from orbit, every town and summit up close.
• The fullscreen ATC tower view is properly airport-scoped again: it keeps the full real-world detail around your field, the camera can't wander off into empty space, and a centered "Return to airport" button appears under the airport name whenever you roam.
• Weather now tells the truth: airports whose weather station is offline or decommissioned no longer show a frozen weeks-old METAR as if it were live (and stale TAFs are dropped the same way). If ForeFlight says there's no METAR, so do we.
• Aircraft info cards now open beside the aircraft instead of covering it and its track.
• Taxiing and parked traffic now grey back on the map and in ATC mode, so the aircraft actually flying stand out at a glance.
• The landing page got its light/dark toggle back — and a richer hero: a denser amber taxiway web, full-length runway guide lines, and live-style GND datablocks on the ramp.
• The map's Charts & layers panel lost its duplicates — the radar toggle, traffic filter, and FBO parking each live in exactly one place now.

Released August 3, 2026

• Drag-to-create bookings — sweep across an aircraft or instructor lane on the schedule's day grid (like Google Calendar) to pick a time and duration, then choose the student and whether it's a flight or a ground lesson.
• Instructors now have their own lanes on the day grid, so ground lessons and checkride prep book like any aircraft slot.
• Aircraft status management — mark a fleet aircraft Available / In maintenance / Grounded, and pilots can file squawks (with an optional grounding flag). Unavailable aircraft can't take new flight bookings, show striped on the schedule, and surface in the dashboard Attention feed along with 100-hour/annual inspections coming due.
• Push notifications are live — messages, schedule delays and cancellations, Flight Ops updates, and org announcements, each with its own toggle in Settings → Notifications. The bell menu and the installed app now offer to turn them on.
• Live emergency alerts — when an aircraft squawks 7700/7600/7500 anywhere in the world, a card slides in with a chime and a "View on map" that flies the dashboard map to the aircraft and follows it. Live squawks also pin to the top of What's happening.
• New News section — live aviation headlines, incident reports, the most-watched flights right now, and live spotter streams. Possibly-sensitive images ask before showing.
• Date of birth on your profile now drives the FAA under/over-40 medical duration automatically — no more self-declared checkbox.
• Student-friendly currency: instrument 6-in-6 only shows for instrument-rated (or instrument-training) pilots, a new "I haven't had a flight review yet" option, and the Next-certificate card gained a tickable required-experience checklist (150 nm solo XC, tower landings, and the rest).
• Org library PDFs now show a real first-page thumbnail, with a "sensitive" option that hides previews behind an explicit reveal.
• AI logbook scan is now an Aviator-and-above perk.
• Support now runs through a dedicated console account with live-user presence, and support messages are rate-limited against spam.
• The FBO parking button is back on the map dock, dashboard panels are glassier, section icons are blue again, and stuck "plan changed / subscription cancelled" notices now expire and dismiss properly.

Released August 2, 2026

• AI logbook scan — photograph a paper logbook page (or pick an existing photo) and AeroLog reads every flight row for you. Review and correct each row before anything is imported.
• Scanned entries are clearly marked — an amber "Scanned" badge shows in the logbook, on mobile cards, and in printed exports, so AI-imported rows are never mistaken for hand-typed ones.
• Scanning runs on a free AI provider with a per-account daily cap, and falls back across multiple models automatically when one is busy.
• ATC mode now starts the radio the moment you enter — no play button hunt — and keeps the audio rolling when you switch frequencies or airports. Pause still means pause.
• The radio now heals itself: a dead LiveATC stream triggers automatic reconnects to a fresh server with a "reconnecting" status, instead of failing straight to an error.
• An "Open on LiveATC" link is now always available in ATC mode as a fallback player, and the broken Broadcastify link is gone.
• Resuming a paused ATC stream now rejoins live audio instead of replaying stale buffer.
• Paid subscriptions are now live through PayPal — Aviator, Instructor, and all Organization tiers, monthly or annual.
• Landing-page polish — every section now eases in as you scroll, including the stats band and footer.

Released July 24, 2026

• Fixed paid and organization plans being wrongly capped at 5 flights — the Discovery flight limit no longer applies to upgraded accounts.
• Airborne fleet aircraft now show correctly as airborne in the dashboard lists instead of reading "no signal", matching the live map.
• Fixed the airborne aircraft cards in full-screen map mode — tapping one now flies to and follows the aircraft, instead of the tap panning the map underneath.
• Live "Following" HUD — when you track an aircraft the map now shows its altitude, groundspeed, and estimated time to its destination.
• Emergency squawk alerts — a 7700/7600/7500 target now raises an unmistakable red banner on the scope; tap it to jump straight to the aircraft.
• Message reactions and read receipts — react to any message with an emoji and see a "Seen" marker once it's read, in both the Messages dock and the full inbox.
• Cleaner ATC scope — an aircraft's destination now shows only when you click it, not on every label.
• Fixed aircraft facing the wrong way — headings now follow real movement when the ADS-B track is stale, and ground traffic no longer all points north.
• The whole-globe ATC scope and smoother live traffic — planes glide between updates instead of jumping around.
• Faster map imagery — satellite and chart tiles load at high priority, so the map fills in noticeably quicker on a cold start.
• Fixed the aircraft photo mismatch — a slow light aircraft no longer shows an airliner photo on its card.
• The airport info card no longer hides behind the dashboard panels in full-screen — it docks clear to their left.
• Schedule now scrolls properly on mobile, and your calendar subscription's private feed URL is hidden for your privacy.
• Logbook and aircraft editors no longer close when you click outside them — use the ✕ so an in-progress edit is never lost by accident.
• Annual pricing now shows the savings (about 17% — two months free) right on the home-page plans.
• Billing reliability — resolved trial-detection and payment-status edge cases so upgrades and plan changes go through cleanly.
• Fixed a currency-page glitch that logged a console warning on the medical and flight-review date fields.

• Ground Ops broadcasts — admins can push an announcement to every pilot through the AeroLog system channel, delivered straight to the inbox with a push notification.
• Your Messages dock now keeps the full conversation history inline instead of only the latest message.
